Longest Day

Well its come to that time of year when the evenings start to draw in, but for a while yet at least we can enjoy some amazing summer evenings.  Over the weekend I spent an evening at Camber Castle and shot this quick timelapse:

Hope you enjoy!

The Puffins are back on Skomer!….. sort of…

puffinThis guy is one of the few that were on land during the day yesterday.  But because it is still early the Puffins are coming and going and only really settling on the slopes on calmer evenings.  Over the next few weeks they will get more and more settled until they are ready to lay their eggs and then they will be committed to the season on land and all going well will occupy the burrow with their partner until June/July when their chick heads off to see and their work is done for the year!

It might seem like a small thing but today I saw my first Skomer dragonfly.  Think it’s just a Common Darter but with all the rubbish weather we have had I was starting to think I wouldn’t see any all year!  It buzzed up ahead of me and went along one of the bracken lined paths before darting off to one side and perching up in the lush green fronds.  It’s the little things like this recently that have reminded me why I love the jobs I do, a nice sunny evening with a walk finishes of an island day nicely :D

with a slight haze of more gannets in the distance

After several failed attempts, I made it out to Grassholm recently as part of a leaving do for Jerry.  We got two boatloads of people out on a nice calm evening and had a great time watching dolphins, seals, seabirds and a lighthouse!

A new bird for me this week, a smart little Whinchat- this one is a male and dropped by the farm on Skomer this evening.
