Black Redstart

I was going to write a piece about Guillemot today, as its the main focus of my season, but yesterday I got a nice shot of some smaller and slightly more colourful visitors.  Black Redstarts pass through as migrants and often stop off on the islands to refuel and rest in bad weather.  We have had at least three in the last few days but our sister island Skokholm have had plenty more.  Here is a nice adult male Black Redstart that was visiting the farm:

bredstartThere was another first year male around too, but these are not quite as striking as they have not developed the bold white panels on the wing.  They seem to be a bit more flighty too, or that’s my excuse as I completely failed to get a shot of the youngster!

  1. I think you might be in line for some significant migrant falls over the coming days. Best Wishes for the coming season.
