Turtle Dove

Well apparently it’s autumn already.  Been getting lots of Goldfinch passing through with a fair few Linnet and even juvenile Stonechat visiting the island.  And the star of the week so far is another Turtle Dove, I think the 4th I’ve seen on Skomer this year!

These birds look fairly pot bellied at times but still manage to fly pretty swiftly, bombing past us in the dusk you would think they were something much more sleek!  And despite their typical dove-figure these birds are pretty smart with their strongly marked back and vibrant neck patches catching your eye.  And when compared to the more common (yet still of note out here) Collared Dove you can see they are actually quite slimline!
