Nightjar

Just for those who don’t really know what one looks like, take a look at this and try and picture something before pressing read more…

And this is what a Nightjar actually looks like, an odd sight as these are secretive birds which spend most daylight hours sitting very still, extremely well camouflaged in a tree somewhere remote!

Nightjars are very “wingy” birds that have quite a large but slow flap, enabling me to get some pretty sharp shots when crept up on by a surprisingly large bird popping out of the bushes.

Not much more I can say really, scarce bird that’s rarely seen decides to show off on Skomer :)
