Lydford Gorge

The Devil’s Cauldron

Last week I was over in the west country visiting my girlfriend, Clare. Whilst there we went for a couple of little trips, one of which was to Lydford Gorge. This is a nice national trust estate that happens to have a pretty big gorge in it, well the biggest in the south west but that still only means 30m deep at best. Even so, it was a really nice walk round and let me play with some long exposures…. Shame the tea shop was shut by the time we finished!  The picture above is of the Devil’s Cauldron, a pretty cool little whirlpool that you can almost stand in thanks to a nifty walkway.  I took this shot using my trusty Panasonic Lumix superzoom, the fx-18, with a highly sensible freeheld shot of a 5 second exposure… Didn’t really expect it to work but I was happy to see the static elements are actually sharp! Enough for a blog sized image anyway :)
